Teresa Teixeira Mota and Nídia Rebelo represented Portugal at the "Plastic Tax" webinar, where they presented the topic "Tax on single-use plastic packaging from 01.07.2022".
Since January 1, 2021, member states have been obliged to finance the EU budget by paying a plastics levy of €0.80 per kilogram for non-recycled plastic packaging waste. Currently, most member states continue to pay this levy from their national budgets. Others, however, have already introduced new taxes, levies or contributions on plastic products to refinance the payment obligation and as an incentive to avoid plastic.
In this webinar, local experts presented the new plastics taxation instruments implemented in their countries and the resulting obligations for manufacturers and importers. The speakers discussed the main challenges and implications for companies and shared their experiences with local authorities to provide participants with a practical overview of compliance requirements.
This webinar was held on May 8 and was attended by more than 180 participantes, including experts from Germany, the UK, Hungary, Spain and Poland, as well as Portugal, organised by the German Chemical Industry Association VCI and WTS Global.
