José Pedro Fazenda Martins is now VdA's Of Counsel for Capital Markets

José Pedro Fazenda Martins, who was up to now head of the Markets and Corporate Finance Department at the Portuguese Securities Commission (CMVM) has joined Vieira de Almeida & Associados (VdA) as Of Counsel for the Capital Markets area of practice, with a focus on equity. "Fazenda Martins is a deeply experienced professional. Both his personal and professional skills will surely reinforce VdA's acknowledged capacity for innovation in the financial field", says VdA's managing partner, João Vieira de Almeida.
Master in Civil Law and former assistant professor at the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Law, José Pedro Fazenda Martins was also a member of the Steering Committee of the Euronext College of Regulators. He has intervened on the regulator's side in the most important capital market transactions and listings of financial instruments that occurred in the last 5 years in Portugal, including takeover bids, rights issues, securitisations and two business combination involving international Exchanges.

"There are difficulties ahead, no doubt, but it is a stimulating challenge to overcome them. Alongside the transactions that have to be taken forth by the Portuguese State in order to meet its international commitments, there is a broad consensus on the need to reinforce the institutions' liquidity, and the quality of their assets. Additionally we need to regain the investors' confidence and assure them stability and legal certainty", stated José Pedro Fazenda Martins, who further added that "at VdA I found an excellent, solid team made up of fully motivated practitioners. They have a very clear idea about what are the clients' expectations and are entirely focused on them. I will strive to do my best."

"Our options, in such an extreme setting, are strictly focused on investing in areas which we consider to be crucial for our project's long term sustainability. We aim to keep VdA at the forefront of legal practice, in every business area," stated the firm's managing partner, João Vieira de Almeida.
