Energy Transition & Decarbonisation

Energy Transition & Decarbonisation

The need for an accelerated energy transition is unavoidable, especially given the Paris Agreement targets, and poses complex challenges for undertakings.

It is a global issue that knows no borders and therefore requires a unique command of the several fields of law involved and an innovative approach that takes account of the countless regulatory requirements and social impacts. It has to be a fair transition, and that means that an integrated perspective that takes account of not just environmental but also sustainability, social and governance (ESG) criteria is crucial. Renewable energies and renewable gases, especially green hydrogen, play an obviously crucial role in energy transition and decarbonization of the economy. Investments in green energies have a huge multiplier effect on many economic sectors, including transportation, agriculture, tourism, and real estate, creating business opportunities that boost sustainable economic growth.

VdA has been providing support to different energy sector stakeholders for several decades, having been involved in major renewable energy projects from the very beginning. We have a proven track record of advising entities throughout the sector chain (governments, public entities, regulators, developers, technology and equipment suppliers, operators, investors and lenders).

Energy transition is not limited to renewable energy projects. VdA has also supported players in various economic sectors and in innovative projects with impact on decarbonization.

Our team includes lawyers specialized in all areas related to energy and natural resources projects, as well as sustainability and ESG issues, allowing for an integrated support to both project assessment and structuring, and implementation.
