Vanda Cascão was interviewed by the International Financial Law Review (IFLR), as part of the awards she received, "Energy Natural Resources & Mining Lawyer of the Year" and "Outstanding Achievement", at the "Women in Business Law Awards 2024" ceremony, held on 26 June.

In this interview, Vanda Cascão shares the beginning of her career at VdA, from 1993, when she joined the Firm as a trainee, to her current role as a partner in the Energy & Natural Resources practice. 

Given her experience and expertisein the energy sector, Vanda Cascão explains the main trends and challenges that clients are currently facing in this sector, namely: "energy prices and rising costs represent a great challenge for clients, who also have to face difficulties associated with the significant amount of legislation and resources,  both human and financial, necessary to implement the energy transition".

After many years working on ecological issues, Vanda Cascão obtained the title of "certified ESG analyst" by the European Federation of Financial Analyst Societies in 2020. In this context and given the growing importance of ESG issues in organisations, Vanda Cascão explains that "law firms are a key player when it comes to ESG. The level of compliance and responsability required of companies regarding ESG issues means that they have to master this context."

In this interview, Vanda Cascão also addresses some topics such as the most memorable projects in which she has been involved, her experience with gender equality in the legal sector, and what advice she could have given to her younger self, which is the title of this interview: ‘Enjoy the journey.’
