n the fifth episode of the Vozes que Inspiram podcast, António Pires de Lima, CEO of the Brisa Group, shared his views on inclusive leadership and the role leaders play in promoting gender equality within organisations.

In conversation with Maria João Simões, he explained that his awareness of this issue has developed over the years, shaped both by his professional experience and his personal life as the father of five daughters. For António Pires de Lima, more diverse organisations are fairer, more competitive and better equipped to respond to today’s challenges.

He highlighted the transformation achieved at Brisa, where female representation in leadership positions has increased significantly in recent years. Today, around 40% of leadership roles are held by women, a result made possible through clear targets, regular monitoring and a commitment embraced across the organisation.

Throughout the conversation, he also emphasised the importance of creating environments in which women can fully participate in decision-making processes, arguing that equal opportunities require more than good intentions: they require action, clear objectives and leaders who are willing to lead by example.

António Pires de Lima also spoke about the importance of delegation, continuous learning and humility in leadership, qualities he considers essential for building strong and autonomous teams.

In closing, he delivered a message of hope and responsibility, calling for greater female representation in decision-making positions. “A world with a stronger presence of women in political and business leadership will be a better world,” he stated, adding that every leader has a duty to help create organisations that are more balanced, inclusive and prepared for the future.
