Joana Reis Barata, in co-authorship with João Gouveia de Caires, wrote the article entitled ‘Report on Portugal’, which is part of the collective work ‘Third Parties in Criminal Proceedings: A Comparative Law Study’, published by Springer.

In this article, the authors analyse the Portuguese legal system, focusing on the procedural position of third parties in the criminal justice system and the implications of their participation. The article examines who the main players are in criminal proceedings, identifying the people authorised to intervene in these cases and the level of impact they can have.

In addition, the authors address the protection of the rights of third parties, the measures operating in their favour and the overall impact of their involvement in proceedings.
