Climate change requires global cooperation — and that cooperation begins with international negotiation processes.

At a time when international climate negotiations are becoming increasingly important, access to the knowledge and tools that underpin these processes is essential.

It was with the aim of strengthening the capacity and participation of Portuguese-speaking countries in these negotiations that the collaboration between VdA and the UNFCCC was established.

This collaboration has led to two concrete initiatives: the translation into Portuguese of the ‘Presiding Officers’ Guide to the UNFCCC Process’, a key reference for participants in global climate negotiations, and the organisation of a session aimed at current and future negotiators from CPLP countries.

As Portuguese is not an official language of the United Nations system, this initiative represents an important contribution to the Portuguese-speaking community.

On 30 June, VdA will host, in collaboration with the UNFCCC, a session to present the Guide, which will also serve to gather input for future capacity-building initiatives in this area.

The initiative involves Assunção Cristas and Catarina Pinto Correia, as part of VdA’s ongoing work in climate action, sustainability and international cooperation.

We believe that more inclusive and effective negotiations begin with broader access to knowledge.
