The VI Lisbon Vis Pre-Moot took place from March 6th to 8th, a preparatory competition for the 31st edition of the world's largest commercial arbitration competition - the Willem C. Vis Moot, which will take place in Vienna between March 22nd and 29th.
The VI Lisbon Vis Pre-Moot was organised by the Under-40 Council of the Portuguese Arbitration Association, of which VdA lawyers Matilde Líbano Monteiro and Iñaki Carrera are members, in collaboration with other young lawyers' associations, and sponsored by several law firms, including VdA.
The winner of the competition was the team from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon (FDUL), supported for the 8th consecutive year by VdA Academia under an exclusive protocol with FDUL.
The team, composed by the students Joana Simas Leite, Lourenço Baptista, Manuel Rafael and Maria João Arzileiro de Carvalho, had António Pestana Araújo and Bernardo Kahn, from VdA, as well as Catarina Coelho and Carolina Nagy Correia, from FDUL, as coaches. The group of coaches was coordinated by Professor José Ferreira Gomes.
This year, the arbitration was subject to the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce and concerned a contract for the supply of sensors impacted by a cyber-attack, raising questions about the impact of cyber-attacks on the rights and duties of the parties, in the light of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.
After successfully competing in the London and Prague pre-moots, where they finished in third place, the team won the VI Lisbon Vis Pre-Moot, also receiving the "Best Claimant" award.
VdA Academia is proud to continue supporting the FDUL team, inspiring and encouraging young students to specialise successfully in the field of arbitration.
