In the scope of VdA's Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility and the protocol the firm has established with Tapada Nacional de Mafra (national estate of Mafra) for the second year, a group of dozens of VdA members spent a day planting pine trees and cork oaks at the Boavista area, which was burnt down by the 2003 fire that devastated circa 70% of the Tapada estate's forest and has been allocated to VdA's carbon neutral program. "This is just another example of our environmentally responsible best practices.

Further to planting trees every year at the Tapada Nacional de Mafra, we try to 'plant' trees at the office every other day" said Hugo Moredo Santos and Marta Magalhães Cardoso, who head VdA's Green Project (Projeto Verde). These actions allow for approximately 60 tonnes of carbon capture which corresponded to circa 8% of the firm's total emmissions in 2011, according to the firm's Carbon Footprint Report which can be read at http://www.vda.pt/pt/pro-bono/.

VdA was the first law firm to establish an official Pro Bono and CSR program whose main axes are social and environmental responsibility.
