Assunção Cristas took part in a flash interview at the Portugal Digital Summit, where she reflected on the challenges of digital transformation in Portugal and the role technology can play in building a more sustainable economy.

During the interview, she highlighted that, despite the progress already achieved, Portugal still faces challenges when compared to the countries with which it aspires to benchmark itself, stressing the need to accelerate the practical implementation of the solutions already available.

Addressing the relationship between technology and sustainability, Assunção Cristas emphasised that technological innovation will play a decisive role in helping businesses and organisations tackle climate challenges, enabling more efficient processes for measuring, managing and making decisions.

She also underlined the importance of ensuring that growing digitalisation is accompanied by environmental considerations, particularly regarding the infrastructure that supports the data economy and the need for clean energy.

Despite these challenges, she expressed an optimistic view of the sector’s evolution, arguing that technological development itself is contributing to increasingly sustainable solutions.
