Catarina Pinto Correia participated in the panel ‘Agribusiness: Portugal on the Radar’ during the 8th edition of the Advocatus Summit, where she highlighted agribusiness as a strategic sector with a much wider reach than just agricultural production. In the debate, held alongside Tomás Almeida Ribeiro, from PLMJ, the VdA lawyer explained that the concept of agribusiness includes not only the primary sector and agricultural production, but also areas such as the agri-food industry, forestry, and other areas within the value chain, such as technology, innovation, intellectual property, and commercial operations connected to the agricultural sector, contributing to an increasingly dynamic business ecosystem.

During the panel, Catarina Pinto Correia also highlighted the growing impact of European regulations, namely the CSRD and the European taxonomy, which promote business practices in line with sustainability, social responsibility and carbon neutrality goals by 2050. ‘The choice has been to regulate, in line with the guiding principles of the United Nations and the Paris Agreement, as well as the Biodiversity Policy, with the aim of reducing temperature rise (...) and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.’ In Portugal, she added, the Portuguese Climate Act sets out this target to be moved until 2045.
