Fourth time in a row

Led by competition head Nuno Ruiz and strengthened by Miguel Mendes Pereira, both Who's Who Legal: Competition entrants, Vieira de Almeida has been active in all fields of competition law including cartels, abuses of dominant position, merger control, state aid and privatisation.

 

The firm represented Portugal Telecom, the country's largest telecommunications service provider, in several matters including a joint venture with NOS and Sport TV. The team also assisted two major banks in an investigation concerning allegations of information exchange. In behavioural matters, the firm filed several complaints against companies alleged to have abused their dominant position by discriminating against companies attempting to gain access to media content.

In recent years, the firm has been particularly active in state aid matters, providing counsel to state-owned enterprises in relation to state aid in the transport sector. The firm continues to advise the Portuguese Government and the Bank of Portugal in state aid-related issues, as well as public and private undertakings such as Grupo Mello, Brisa, Efacec, CTT, Portugal Telecoms and several banks and pharmaceutical companies.
