"The Portuguese alternative funds market remains rather traditional. However, in recent years there has been a discernible trend of new foreign players stepping in, mainly through the acquisition of existing fund managers or through direct investment in alternative funds. The market is still dominated by fund managers integrated into banking groups, but independent managers have been increasing their footprint and market share – the market being sought after by investors wishing to establish local partnerships and at the same time looking for a faster and more flexible decision-making process."
