The 2nd edition of “The Trademarks Law Review” has been recently published, which presents, for various legal systems, the legal framework for registration and enforcement of trademarks.

António Andrade, partner, Sara Nazaré, senior associate, and João Carlos Assunção, associate, elaborated the chapter on the portuguese jurisdiction, in this compendium that is dedicated, among other things, to the most recent legislative changes int his field in 2018/2019, worldwide. VdA’s lawyers begin by reminding that “Ownership of a Portuguese trademark is acquired by registration with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI).The trademark owner has specific means to contest the infringement of its rights: he or she can obtain injunctions (preliminary or on the merits, or both) and other civil remedies, bring criminal charges or apply for customs procedures.”.
