VdA is a member of the organising team of the XXVIII FIDE Congress 2018, which is set to be held from 23 to 26 May 2018 at the Estoril Congress Centre (Estoril, Lisbon).

The FIDE - International Federation of European Law congresses are organised by each national association for European law which successively assumes FIDE’s presidency (currently held by APDE - Portuguese Association for European Law, presided by José Luís Cruz Vilaça, Judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union - CJEU), taking place every 2 years in different EU Member States and representing an important event to reflect and debate on EU law. Around 500 participants are expected at the upcoming Congress, which will gather leading figures of the legal community, including judges of the CJEU, of the General Court of the European Union and from national courts, as well as university professors, representatives of European institutions and lawyers specialised in the field.

The three main topics of next year’s edition are: I. The Internal Market and the Digital Economy; II. Taxation, State Aid and Distortions of Competition; and III. The External Dimension of EU Policies: horizontal issues; trade and investment; immigration and asylum.

Magda Cocco (partner) will participate at the Congress as National Rapporteur on the first topic. In addition, Nuno Ruiz (partner), in his capacity as member of the Board of Directors of APDE, and Margarida Sameiro (coordinator), Piedade Castro e Sousa (associate) and Teresa Côrte-Real, in their capacity as members of APDE’s Executive Committee, have been directly involved in the organisation of this event, which is sponsored by VdA.
