VdA, in collaboration with the Legal Affairs Division of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held the Capacity-Building Workshop on the UNFCCC Process for CPLP Countries in Maputo, Mozambique, on 22 and 23 September.

Catarina Pinto Correia and Marta Graça took part on behalf of VdA. The workshop also included Christine Adam, Diretora da Divisão de Assuntos Jurídicos da UNFCCC, Ginaluca Crispi, Legal Officer na UNFCCC and Valentina Ricca,  Legal Affairs Consultant na UNFCCC.

The initiative built on the work undertaken with CPLP countries to strengthen their participation in international climate negotiations, following meetings held during COP30 in Belém. The workshop provided an opportunity to deepen participants’ understanding of the UNFCCC process, explore the practical use of the Portuguese version of the Presiding Officers’ Guide to the UNFCCC Process, and share experiences among representatives of Portuguese-speaking countries. VdA supported the translation of the Guide into Portuguese, helping to make this resource more accessible.

Through this workshop, VdA and the UNFCCC helped strengthen access to knowledge and the participation of Portuguese-speaking countries in international climate negotiations.
