Ricardo Filipe Costa, Associate at the Competition & EU practice, has published "The Murphy Judgment and the Underlying Internal Market Imperative". This is an ebook by publishing house Almedina and features a foreword by Emeritus Professor Richard Whish, QC (Hon).
The monograph focuses on the "Murphy" Judgment (also referred to as the "FAPL" Judgment) of the CJEU of 4 October 2011 on broadcasting rights to live sporting events (in this case, live Premier League football matches). It analyses the judgment from a legal and economic perspective and discusses its possible implications for copyright holders, operators and consumers.
Furthermore, as a background to its core subject the monograph also contains an extensive analysis of the challenging interplay between Competition Law, Intellectual Property Law and EU Internal Market Law.
