João Afonso Fialho, Tomás Cabral Anunciação and Teófilo de Jesus sign the chapter on Timor-Leste in the guide Mining 2024, published by Chambers and Partners, in the Chambers Global Practice Guides segment.

In this publication, the VdA lawyers analyse the legislation, regulation, environmental impacts, community relations, taxation, financing and future trends for the mining sector in Timor-Leste.

In their introduction to the theme, João Afonso Fialho, Tomás Cabral Anunciação and Teófilo de Jesus explain that "despite the huge potential of Timor-Leste’s mineral resources, the country’s mining industry is still at an early phase of development (on an industrial scale)". However, according to the authors, the local government is focused on attracting investment to the sector, which will certainly contribute to the creation of jobs, improving the living conditions of the population, increasing the country's tax revenues and diversifying the economy, reducing the country's dependence on the oil and gas industry.
