Assunção Cristas, João Almeida Filipe and Carolina Vaza signed the article "Biodiversity credit schemes for the safeguarding of nature", published in the International Financial Law Review.

Following the Kunming-Montreal Agreement on Biodiversity, adopted in 2022 at COP-15, and European policies for investment in biodiversity, it has been emphasised that there is a growing need for national and local governments, as well as communities and companies, to become aware of their "biodiversity footprint" and, therefore, promote actions with a positive impact on nature.

In this context, this article offers a reflection on the possibility of introducing voluntary biodiversity credit systems as a strategy to help reverse biodiversity loss.
