Miguel Mendes Pereira, partner at VdA's Competition & EU area of practice and lecturer at the University of Lisbon Faculty of Law is guest speaker under invitation from Georgetown University at the 4th annual conference under organization of the Corporate Counsel Institute Europe that will be taking place on the 18 April in London at Freshfields law firm's offices.
The programme will be approaching "New Challenges for the Legal Department" and aims to discuss the main challenges ahead for in-house legal departments at multinational companies, namely managing regulatory risks or the relations between the General Counsel and the Board of Directors.
Miguel Mendes Pereira will be the only Portuguese lawyer to lecture at the conference and will be intervening in the panel on forensic investigation on electronic data, one of the most complex issues challenging companies under investigation or searches.
According to VdA's partner, this matter ‘forces us to bring together legal tools that have been thought out for the physical world and the challenges of a dematerialized world where a couple of bits of information can mean hundreds of millions of Euros in a company's liability".
