Samuel Fernandes de Almeida is quoted in an article published by Jornal Económico newspaper, on the understanding by the Arbitration Court that the Additional on the Banking Sector, violates the principles of equality and proportionality.
The lawyer claims that the Additional Tax on the Banking Sector "burdens a sector of activity based on its (alleged) lower VAT burden, an argument that is highly debatable as it is based on EU legislation and the exemption of the banking sector is incomplete" - and aimed at financing the Social Security system, from which all society benefits".
