Assunção Cristas took part in the conference “Lawyers in the Construction of the Rule of Law: Memory, Resistance and Future”, organised by the Portuguese Parliament and the Portuguese Bar Association as part of the celebrations marking the centenary of the institution.
Participating in the third panel, “Advocacy, Legislative Power and Freedom: The Future”, Assunção Cristas joined Teresa Violante, also a lawyer and Visiting Professor at Nova School of Law, for a discussion on the challenges and opportunities facing the legal profession in a context of social, political and legislative transformation. The session was moderated by Inês Ferreira Leite, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon.
The event brought together representatives from the legal profession, academia and public institutions to reflect on the historical contribution of lawyers to the consolidation of the rule of law and their role in safeguarding citizens’ rights and freedoms.
