Assunção Cristas, João Almeida Filipe and Carolina Vaza contribute to the Legal 500 Environment guide with the introductory chapter: "Voluntary Carbon Market: Emerging regulations within the EU and Portugal".
In this publication, the environmental lawyers analyse the European measures to achieve carbon neutrality, including the proposed European regulation, presented in November 2022.
From a national point of view, it also analyses the path that Portugal has taken to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
"Portugal decided to speed up the approval of the rules for the creation of a regulated market at national level," which is precisely why the law establishing the Voluntary Carbon Market in Portugal was published in January of this year.
Finally, the publication covers project categories, methodologies, carbon credits, involuntary emissions and the next steps to be completed.
