Magda Cocco, Inês Antas de Barros, Isabel Ornelas and Maria de Lurdes Gonçalves wrote an article entitled "Africa: Malabo Convention - a pan-African strategy on data protection and cybersecurity". The article analyses the impact of the recent entry into force of the African Union Convention on Cybersecurity and Personal Data Protection (the Malabo Convention), the pan-African instrument that regulates how adhering Member-States must legislate on data protection and cybersecurity matters, and which necessarily impacts legislative and regulatory strategies in said countries. VdA’s article focuses, in particular, on the impact of the Malabo Convention on Portuguese-speaking African countries (Angola, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Principe).
VdA will continue to monitor the inevitable developments and impact of the Convention on pan-African legislative frameworks.
