Francisco Cabral Matos, João Riscado Rapoula and Miguel C. Reis represent VdA at the International Bar Association (IBA) conference, which takes place from 6 to 8 November in Lisbon. Entitled "The New Era of Taxation", the conference aims to debate the impact of the Pillar 2 initiative on cross-border M&A transactions, the tax aspects of start-ups and asset tokenization, international tax conflicts in the new era, and the tax implications of corporate re-domiciliation.
On the second day of the event, Francisco Cabral Matos will be speaking on the panel "Recent cases and trends on beneficial ownership and treaty eligibility". This panel aims to analyse the most recent court decisions and the evolution of practices in the main jurisdictions, focusing on the impact of these changes on the assessment of eligibility for tax treaties and the concept of beneficial owner, especially in the context of tax treaties and European Union directives.
