Miguel Marques dos Santos has published an opinion article titled “A Fresh Opportunity” in the May edition of Magazine Imobiliário. In this article, the VdA lawyer reflects on the current economic and political challenges facing Portugal and the international context, highlighting how periods of instability can be transformed into opportunities for growth, particularly in the real estate sector.

Using the example of the Troika crisis, Miguel Marques dos Santos emphasises how Portugal managed to overcome that period through targeted public policies, such as reforms in urban leasing laws and golden visa regime, which boosted private and foreign investment.

Now, in the face of the housing crisis, the author reinforces the importance of a strategic approach and the creation of ‘clear public policies that boost private investment, particularly overseas investment, and help civil society to do its bit’.

‘If the Troika time, with all its negative aspects that it had, ended up by being an opportunity for the real estate sector and for the country, there’s no reason why the times we’re going through today cannot also be seen as an opportunity’, he concludes.
