On 30 September, VdA hosted the event 'CISG: Bridging Insights with Industry' at the Lisbon office, focused on the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). This legal instrument is automatically applicable in Portugal to an increasing number of international sales contracts.

Moderated by Iñaki Carrera, Senior Associate at VdA, the discussion addressed key issues for buyers and sellers, including freedom in pre-contractual negotiations, rules on defective goods and civil liability. The session also clarified when and how parties may negotiate the application of these rules.

The panel brought together Ingeborg Schwenzer, Professor Emeritus at the University of Basel, member of the CISG Advisory Council and one of the world’s leading experts on the CISG, and Maria Helena Brito, Professor at the Faculty of Law of the New University of Lisbon and a renowned specialist in private international law.

With this event, VdA contributed to a clearer understanding of the CISG and its impact on international trade.
