VdA subscribed the Lisbon European Green Capital 2020 Commitment with the aim of addressing the challenges and responsibilities defined by Portugal in the Paris Climate Agreement and of making Portugal’s capital city a leader in best practices for urban environmental sustainability.

In 2020, Lisbon was awarded the title of “European Green Capital 2020” by the European Union. This recognition gave rise to the 2030 Climate Action Programme, which foresees a series of measures that all subscribing countries must implement by 2030 with respect to the following dimensions: energy, mobility, water, air quality and noise, circular economies, and citizenship and participation.

The Lisbon City Council challenges the city, its companies, organisations, associations and institutions (both public and private) to assume the Commitment with an ambitious agenda for the next decade, under the motto “CHOOSE TO EVOLVE: 2030 measures for 2030”.
