Marta Alves Vieira (Of Counsel) participates in a special edition of Jornal Económico newspaper on "Patents & Industrial Property", in which it is said that Portugal has increased protection for innovation and intellectual property, as a result of the high growth in the number of patent and trademark registrations.

In this article, several experts in this field of the Law answer the following questions: What are the current barriers in the patent and industrial property system and how can they be overcome? What are the development expectations for this area in Portugal and how can the country improve its situation?.

Marta Alves Vieira states that "the development of the industrial property area in Portugal will depend on the evolution of the economy and the investments made in it. Considering that the Government's Recovery and Resilience Plan foresees a large investment in the digital transition in Justice, it would be a shame if part of that investment was not directed to intellectual property, its promotion and protection. This area will only develop if companies become aware of the fundamental role that innovation (and its protection) can play as a driver of their growth."

Following this article, Jornal Económico newspaper promotes a talk on the topic "Innovating and patenting in Portugal: how and when?" in which the lawyer participates as a guest speaker. Watch the talk online here, on 6 August at 7pm.
