Vasco Vieira de Almeida was distinguished with the ‘Advocatus Lifetime Achievement’ award, given by ECO/Advocatus, in recognition of his invaluable contribution to the valorisation of law as a fundamental pillar of society and the economy.

During the tribute ceremony, the Minister of Justice, Rita Alarcão Júdice, highlighted Vasco Vieira de Almeida's vision of the role of the lawyer, underlining words spoken by the honoree at various points in his life.

‘I totally reject the view that a lawyer is a service provider. Firstly, every lawyer must also act as a citizen; if he doesn't, he's not a good lawyer. They can't abdicate their social function, they have to fight for civilisational values. You can't be neutral, because that would degrade your role.’

On the occasion, the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, shared a testimony about Vasco Vieira de Almeida, praising his integrity, vision and unavoidable contribution to the defence of democratic values. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also emphasised Vasco's inspiring role as a citizen and lawyer, whose dedication to justice and the common good left an indelible mark on Portuguese society.
