Filipe de Vasconcelos Fernandes (Senior Consultant) writes an article for Capital Verde on the tax burden and the real economy of fuels, elaborating some reflections on the Portuguese case which he states that it is "unequivocal that Portugal has a very high level of tax burden on fuels (especially on road destination)."

"This set of circumstances clearly highlights the circumstance that the tax burden applicable to fuels is unequivocally high in Portugal, even if we were to adopt a position of neutrality vis-à-vis indicators that are particularly relevant in this context (such as disposable income "per capita") and where our country is clearly behind others where the tax burden applicable to fuels is effectively lower."
