Carolina Centeno, as part of the WhatNext.Law project, has published the insight “European Economic Security – A changing landscape for the Portuguese foreign direct investment screening regime”, in which she analyses recent developments in the regulatory framework for foreign direct investment (FDI) in the European Union.

The text highlights how the current geopolitical landscape has heightened concerns about the impact of foreign investments on the security and public order of EU Member States, leading to increased regulation in strategic sectors. In this context, the European Commission has put forward a proposal for a new regulation establishing a mandatory minimum level of FDI screening across the EU.
