José Miguel Oliveira, Caio de Mello Ferreira and João Saiago Canjeque have contributed to the chapter on Angola in the Chambers Global Practice Guide: Shipping 2025, published by Chambers and Partners.
The guide analyses maritime transport legislation and regulations across multiple jurisdictions, covering topics such as port State inspection regimes, maritime accidents, cargo and passenger claims, ship arrest, tax benefits for shipowners, implications of environmental regulations, trade sanctions and international dispute resolution.
In Angola’s case, the chapter notes that 2024 saw significant developments in maritime law, with measures aimed at modernising and strengthening the sector. Key changes included the introduction of more stringent environmental standards, enhanced maritime security, streamlined customs and port procedures, new incentives for foreign investment, and greater investment in professional training and capacity building.
