Francisco Cabral Matos is representing VdA at the conference “The Future of Tax Litigation”, taking place on 22 and 23 September in the Salão Nobre of the Ministry of Finance, in Lisbon.

He will be speaking on the panel “Reducing Tax Litigation: Measures to reduce tax disputes”, alongside António Castro Caldas (Uria Menéndez), in a session moderated by Casalta Nabais, Professor at the University of Coimbra.

On the importance of this initiative, Francisco Cabral Matos emphasises:

'The main purpose of any reform of tax litigation is to ensure that it becomes more efficient and, as far as possible, less necessary, limiting itself to settling disputes on matters of high technical complexity. Given the volume, time consumption and allocation of resources to date (both by the Tax Authority and by taxpayers), there is still a long way to go. Hence, the conference ‘The Future of Tax Litigation,’ held following the publication of the report by the Tax Process and Procedure Review Commission, is both timely and relevant. Improving tax procedures and processes also means creating measures that allow for the harmonisation of positions even before a dispute arises.'

The event brings together more than 400 participants and leading voices from the tax field, including representatives from public institutions, academia and civil society, fostering a broad debate on solutions to strengthen efficiency, transparency and engagement with both citizens and businesses.

Organised by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of State Reform and the Ministry of Justice, in partnership with the Portuguese Tax Association, the conference also marks the launch of the report prepared by the Commission for the Review of Tax Procedures, Processes and Taxpayer Guarantees.
