Elizabeth Sebastião

Elizabeth Sebastião joined VdA in 2024. She is a trainee in the Banking & Finance practice.

She has advised on various transactions at national and international level, particularly in Portuguese-speaking Africa, Asia and Europe, covering Angola, Portugal, Mozambique, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, and East Timor.

She has been involved in the incorporation and licensing of financial institutions, including commercial banks, investment banks and non-bank financial institutions, overseeing the entire process from the structuring and definition of the institutional model through to liaising with the relevant regulatory authorities, both nationally and in the markets of Portuguese-speaking Africa.

She is also involved in capital markets transactions, including public subscription offers, public exchange offers and public sale offers relating to banks, telecommunications companies and sports clubs, as well as in corporate finance transactions, notably facility agreements, project finance and structured credit transactions. It also assists with transactions involving the issue and transfer of debt securities, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and investment, notably in processes such as corporate restructuring and privatisations, the purchase and sale of shareholdings, as well as share capital increases and reductions. It is involved in drafting legal opinions and comfort letters, and monitors compliance and regulatory issues within the financial sector.

Bachelor’s degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the European University.

Postgraduate qualification in Corporate Finance from the Centre for Research in Private Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon.

Postgraduate degree in Corporate Governance from the Centre for Private Law Research at the Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon.

She was a trainee in the Corporate and M&A practice.

Before joining the Firm, she completed a summer internship at ASP Advogados – Sociedade de Advogados, then the exclusive Angolan member of the VdA Legal Partners network.

She was Chair of the General Assembly of the Angolan Students’ Association at the European University (2022–2024) and Vice-Chair of the General Assembly of the Law Students’ Association at the European University (2022–2023).

Admitted to the Portuguese Bar Association as a Trainee Lawyer.
