An economist by training, José Sousa de Macedo graduated from the Faculty of Economics of NOVA University Lisbon (1986) and later attended an advanced executive programme in Marketing for Executives at Católica University (1999).
Between 2000 and 2020, he held executive and management positions at VdA and the Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation, where he currently serves as Sole Auditor. He has also held supervisory and management roles in companies forming part of the VdA Legal Partners network. He was made partner at VdA in 2026.
