As part of its Pro Bono Programme Vieira de Almeida & Associados has signed a protocol with The Portuguese Centre for Foundations. This organisation represents the foundation sector in Portugal and has a membership of about 120 associate foundations. Its mission involves improving its members as institutions and fomenting cooperation and solidarity between these associates as they carry out the activities they are involved with in the Third Sector.

Under its policy for social responsibility, VdA has been involved in a number of projects in this area, with a special emphasis on the Foundations sector, under the leadership of Margarida Couto, partner and Patrícia de Sousa Lima, the associate responsible for the practice area which focuses on the Third Sector.

The foundation sector has seen a growing number of initiatives and foundations are becoming increasingly important, from both the economic and social points of view, as instruments for carrying out social responsibility projects.

Through the now officialised Protocol of Collaboration, the Portuguese Centre for Foundations and VdA have undertaken to collaborate in mobilising the Foundations sector. This may take place through the organisation and joint participation in seminars, conferences and training sessions on themes that are of interest to foundations. It may also take the form of VdA offering legal support services and clarification of legal and financial issues for both the Portuguese Centre for Foundations and its associates.
