“Tax burden in Portugal is penalising for the teams.”

Samuel Fernandes de Almeida, partner in the Tax department, explains in an interview given to Jornal Económico the attractiveness of the tax burden in Portugal for football professionals.

The article states that, in Portugal, the State has taken a step forward by creating a measure to encourage the return of workers through the implementation of tax attractions.

According to the tax lawyer, “more than incentives, it is necessary to provide the professional football sector with a tax regime that is consistent, and not specifically by reducing the tax burden on wages”. It also points out that “one cannot ignore that granting tax benefits is a tax cost that has to be justified from an economic and social perspective”.
