Rita Pereira de Abreu and Teresa Resende Neiva, in collaboration with Sara Santos Dias, have written the insight “Social Bonds: Financing a Sustainable Future”, published by WhatNext.Law.
The VdA lawyers explore the role of social bonds as effective financial instruments to promote social projects in areas such as healthcare, housing, education, and economic inclusion.
Despite global growth, the social bond market in Portugal faces challenges, such as the lack of a specific tax regime. The authors argue that tax incentives aligned with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria could encourage the use of these instruments, positioning them as sustainable solutions to finance initiatives with a positive impact on Portuguese society and economy.
