In this analysis, Sofia Ribeiro Branco addresses the implications that this strategy carries for companies, as well as the impact it has on consumers. ‘In fact, advertising that contains unverifiable claims is prohibited and can be penalised,’ she explains.
In this sense, Sofia Ribeiro Branco highlights the importance of protecting consumers against this type of unfair advertising and praises the recent European Union Directive 2024/825, which aims to combat greenwashing. As she clarifies, this Directive establishes stricter rules so that the ecological and social claims made by companies are verifiable and proven.
