Integrated into the official COP30 programme, VdA is organising the event 'Bridging the Global South: Legal Governance for Sustainable Food Systems, Fisheries, and Biodiversity', to be held on 20 November at the UNFCCC Pavilion.

This high-level event will bring together leaders and experts from the Global South—including Portugal (Southern Europe), Portuguese-speaking African countries, and Brazil—to discuss how sustainable food systems, responsible fisheries management, and biodiversity conservation can drive resilient and equitable development.

The session will emphasize the transformative potential of South-South cooperation, showcasing how Global South countries can lead the design and implementation of policies that strengthen food security, protect marine and terrestrial ecosystems, and promote climate-resilient livelihoods.

Discussions will focus on legal frameworks, governance structures, and cross-regional partnerships that enable integrated approaches to food systems, fisheries, and biodiversity management. The event will culminate in three actionable recommendations for enhancing institutional and legal tools to support sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient communities.
