Francisco Sousa-Pinto joined VdA in 2020. He is an Associate in the Information, Communication & Technology practice.
He has been actively involved in various projects related to privacy, data protection, cybersecurity and emerging technologies that raise complex issues in multiple jurisdictions and/or legal or regulatory areas.
He also monitors the activity of various electronic communications operators, particularly in terms of compliance with regulatory obligations and liaising with regulatory authorities. These projects include the continuous monitoring and advising of various key players in a wide range of sectors (communications, pharmaceuticals, banking and finance, energy, services and information technology), namely by identifying risks and presenting possible solutions for their mitigation, drafting legal opinions and drafting, reviewing and negotiating policies, contractual instruments and other documents relevant to the fulfilment of legal and regulatory obligations.
He also assists several clients with risk assessments and notifications of security incidents and/or data breaches to supervisory authorities and with their defense in administrative offence procedures. He has accompanied the process of approving and transposing the most recent legal acts relating to the digital area, namely the AI Act,
Law degree at the University of Lisbon Faculty of Law.
Master's degree in International Law and International Relations at the University of Lisbon Faculty of Law.
Before joining the firm, completed an extracurricular internship at the Directorate-General for Foreign Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from October 2019 to March 2020.
Participated in a summer internship at VdA in 2019, having been part of the Competition & EU practice area.
Admitted to the Portuguese Bar Association.
