Fernando joined Pinheiro Neto Advogados, in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1985. In 1996, he became a partner and was responsible for the firm’s “Portuguese Desk”, in partnership with VdA since 2000, actively working on corporate, M&A, and foreign investment matters, as well as bank regulatory (Central Bank of Brazil), portfolio management (Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission), and all sovereign debt issues of the Federative Republic of Brazil over the last thirty years.

After completing his LL.M. at the University of Michigan on a full scholarship, Fernando joined Sullivan & Cromwell in New York, where he advised international groups with the most varied geographical origins and activities, from leading investment banks to North American and European industry players, particularly Portuguese groups investing in Brazil and Brazilian groups investing in Portugal.

Fernando chaired for eight years the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in Brazil - São Paulo, a centenary organisation devoted to developing commercial and business relations between Brazil and Portugal, and now acts as the institution’s legal counsel. In recognition of his work and services, he was awarded the title of Commander of the Order of Infante Dom Henrique by the President of the Portuguese Republic.

He was Vice-President and is currently an Adviser of the Brazilian Association of Lusitano Purebred Horse Breeders and of the Council of the Luso-Brazilian Community in São Paulo.

He is a member of both the Brazilian and Portuguese Bar Associations and works as a foreign law consultant in Brazil.
