Joana Campos e Matos

Joana Campos e Matos joined VdA in 2018. Senior Associate in the Information, Communication & Technology practice, where she has been involved in various projects relating to privacy, data protection, cybersecurity and emerging technologies that raise complex issues across multiple jurisdictions and legal or regulatory areas.

These projects include the ongoing monitoring and provision of advice on privacy and data protection matters for various key players, across a wide range of sectors (pharmaceutical, banking and finance, energy, services and information technology), such as: reviewing records of processing activities; defining and implementing compliance strategies; assessment of data processing activities and conducting data protection impact assessments, particularly in identifying data protection risks and proposing possible solutions for their mitigation; drafting legal opinions on a wide range of issues relating to privacy and the protection of personal data; assisting in the creation of processes that ensure privacy by design and privacy by default; drafting policies, contractual instruments and other relevant documents relating to privacy and the protection of personal data; and defining and implementing procedures in the context of international data transfers.

She has worked with multiple clients in Portuguese-speaking African countries, particularly in Angola, Cabo Verde, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe, as well as in Timor-Leste.

Law degree and Master´s degree in Corporate Law and Business from Portuguese Catholic University, Faculty of Law.

Post-graduate course in European Competition Law from King´s College London.

Post-graduate course in Securities and Banking Law from Portuguese Catholic University, Faculty of Law.

Post-graduate course in Data Protection Law from Portuguese Catholic University, Faculty of Law.

Before joining the firm she worked at Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira in the areas of Intellectual and Industrial Property, Media and Data Protection.

She has worked as in-house lawyer at Sonae SGPS, S.A. and at Telles de Abreu e Associados as a Trainee Lawyer.
