The episode dedicated to Artificial Intelligence (AI) featured Paula Gomes Freire and Magda Cocco, who discussed the main challenges, opportunities and implications of AI in the legal sector.
The starting point for this episode was a remarkable fact: in 2023, researchers at the University of Chicago revealed that GPT-4, an AI tool, achieved excellent results in the United States Bar Association exam. Based on this example, the programme raised the question: what will be the role of lawyers in a world where technology is capable of providing almost all the answers?
Magda Cocco emphasises the disruptive nature of AI: ‘It is a much more transformative technology than any other before it.’ She adds that, in the legal context, AI can help identify biased behaviour patterns, which are often unconscious, thus contributing to fairer practice.
Paula Gomes Freire believes that AI is contributing significantly to a new labour paradigm. ‘With the use of AI, we will all work much more efficiently and much better.’
"There is a world before and a world after AI. The speed is very fast, so I think that in five or ten years, the world will be completely different. In the legal profession and in all sectors and organisations, I think it is undeniable that this will also be the case,‘ concludes Paula Gomes Freire.
