Assunção Cristas, Vanda Cascão and Filipa Calheiros Ferraz wrote the chapter "ESG and Sustainability at the Core of Financing: A European Union Perspective" published in the 13th edition of the International Comparative Legal Guide of Project Finance.

The analysis undertaken by the VdA lawyers introduces the topic by clarifying that "we are indeed far away from those times where it was necessary to explain that the acronym ESG stands for environmental, social, and governance, but we are also far away from a harmonised view about where an ESG approach should lead us”.

In this context, the authors clarify that "one needs to consider that compliance and legal due diligence is required in respect of ESG considerations and claims like never before".

To this end, and for a complete analysis of this subject, the article addresses:

"The 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement", "The EU Sustainable Finance Strategy", "The Technical Expert Group", "The EU taxonomy", "The Taxonomy Delegated Acts", “The Reporting Obligations, the CSRD and the CSDDD", "Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation", "The EU Green Bond Standard", “Green claims", "Project finance and the EU taxonomy" and, finally, "A Compendium of Market Practices".

This publication is composed by analysis articles, including the chapter signed by VdA's lawyers, as well as question and answer chapters on twenty different jurisdictions.
