VdA lawyers talk to Jornal de Negócios

Pedro Cassiano Santos, partner at Vieira de Almeida & Associados (VdA) and associate Cláudia Coutinho da Costa talked to Jornal de Negócios, for its 25th August edition, about State interventions in privatized companies whenever the business areas imply "strategic value for the country and public interest".

"The European Court of Justice has admited to some interventions", says Pedro Cassiano Santos, who specializes in Financial Law. However, "there are two fundamental European Law principles that cannot be violated: competition and free circulation of capitals", explains the lawyer. VdA's associate, Cláudia Coutinho da Costa, specializes in EU law and added to the newspaper that "in order to be considered by the Euroepan Court of Justice, these interventions must be extremely specific and confined to situations in which effective and serious threats are at stake. Never in hypothetical cases".
