Matthieu Le Roux

Matthieu Le Roux joined VdA in 2015. Matthieu is Partner and leads VdA’s OHADA Jurisdictions practice.

Having lived and worked in Chad and Gabon for almost 10 years, Matthieu perfectly understands the culture and business practices of the Sub-Saharan French-speaking African jurisdictions.

Since 2001, his practice has been exclusively focused on providing tax and legal assistance to international investors in French-speaking Africa, with a specific focus on the Oil&Gas industry.

Matthieu has an in-depth understanding of the complex legal, regulatory and practical challenges facing international companies that invest and carry out business in French-speaking African countries. His experience covers a large breadth of areas: PSC negotiations, corporate, tax, customs litigation, anti-bribery, project financing, insolvency, commercial contracts, among others.

Matthieu advises and assists clients in various jurisdictions, including Benin, Cameroon, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Guinea-Conakry, Ivory Coast, Mauritania, the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville) and Senegal.

LLM in International Legal Studies - University of Exeter, United Kingdom.

Postgraduate degree (DJCE) in Business and Tax Law - University of Rennes, France.

Law degree - University of Rennes, France.

Prior to joining VdA, Matthieu was Of Counsel in the Oil & Gas practice at "Miranda Correia Amendoeira & Associados" where he advised oil & gas companies and service contractors operating in Francophone Africa on tax and legal matters.

In the past, he was also Tax and Legal Senior Manager/Director at PwC Gabon (April 2007 - December 2009), Tax and Legal Manager at Deloitte Gabon (July 2005 - March 2007), Tax and Legal Consultant/Manager at PwC Chad (February 2001 - June 2005), Consultant for International Assignment Services at Landwell & Partners (January 2000 - January 2001) and a Trainee at Norton Rose Paris (October 1999 - December 1999).

Admitted to the French and Portuguese Bar Associations.

Member of the Global Legal Customs Association.

Member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators.
