Miguel Soares Branco

Miguel Soares Branco joined VdA in 2016. Senior Associate at the Oil&Gas practice area.

Miguel has been actively involved in multiple transactions within the petroleum sector, such as production sharing contracts, joint operating agreements, EPC contracts for FPSOs and other service agreements for exploration and production activities. Miguel has also advised on regulatory matters and bidding procedures for the oil & gas industry.

Law degree, Lusíada University of Lisbon, Faculty of Law.

LL.M. in Oil & Gas Law, University of Aberdeen.

Before joining the firm Miguel worked at FCB Sociedade de Advogados RL on energy related investments in Angola and Mozambique.

Between 2012 and 2016 he worked as associate legal counsel at Petrobras Netherlands BV where he collaborated in multiple joint ventures and petroleum transactions offshore Brazil.

In 2011 Miguel worked as research assistant at the University of Aberdeen, focused mostly on cross border oil & gas projects.

Author of various articles namely:

  • “Production sharing agreements – Legal blessing or curse for developing countries?” - International Energy Law Review, Issue 4 (IELR) (2012).
