Ricardo Filipe Costa

Ricardo Filipe Costa joined VdA in 2013. He was an associate and senior associate at the Competition & EU area of practice until 2016, where he was actively involved in several transactions in various sectors, most notably in energy, telecoms, multimedia, finance, cosmetics, sports, technological and food. He advised several clients in merger control, antitrust, State aid and trade restrictive practices both before national and European authorities and courts.

He returns to VdA in 2020 as a Principal Consultant at the Competition & EU area.

Before joining VdA, he was a case-handler at the Antitrust Department of the Portuguese Competition Authority (2016-2020).

He was also a Visiting ECN Official at the European Commission, DG Competition, Unit B1 (Antitrust: Energy and Environment) (2019).

He was a ‘Blue Book’ trainee at the European Commission, DG Internal Market, Unit E4 (Free Movement of Professionals) (2012-2013).

He started his career as a trainee lawyer and associate at Marques Mendes & Associados law firm (2006-2011).

 

Author of ‘The Murphy judgment and the underlying Internal Market imperative’ (Almedina, 2014), English and Portuguese versions.

Co-author of chapters on Competition Law in Portugal for leading international publications, notably:
